"George Hallett: Handsworth through Southern Eyes"
George Hallett came to Handsworth in 1971 and 1972, when he was commissioned by the Times Educational Supplement to take photographs of the black community in the area. This gallery contains some of the photographs that he took at that time. George returned to Handsworth with his photographs in 2002 for an exhibition at Soho House Museum. Unfortunately there was no information about the people in the photographs or where they were taken. However, the exhibition gave an opportunity to ask Handsworth people to comment on them, and to perhaps identify individuals and places featured. Their comments are included as labels on this site. If you have any additional information about people and places in the photographs, please do get in touch with us.
